Larry James

First on the bill of Friday's Experience -- a series of outdoor shows in the Place De La Paix, a small park next to the SAT in Montreal -- was Larry James, not a person but a collaboration between Ryan Trann (aka Inkwell) and Max Ulis from Vancouver's Lighta crew. It was apparently their first time playing together as a duo, but you wouldn't know it, their individual pieces fitting together beautifully. It had started spitting lightly, but thankfully the rain held off as the duo played a set of accessible but sophisticated house ranging from the tech end to deep house towards the close, maintaining an appropriately summery groove throughout.
