Published Jun 18, 2013We were impressed by "Fall," the first single from Newfoundland-bred, Toronto-based hip-hop crew Large LIVE n' Direct's new EP When It Rains. Now, ahead of the collection's June 25 release, the whole thing is streaming in full at Exclaim.ca.
Like the aforementioned song, the EP mixes classic hip-hop elements with modern, atmospheric production and introspective, heartbroken rhymes. In a statement, the group called this "a piece that spawned from our experiences within the past couple of years. It is about the intrinsic relationship between love and loss, and the spectrum of emotions which are likely to result from each. Ultimately, its aims not to be optimistic or pessimistic, but a realistic assessment of love."
The six tracks clock in just shy of a generous 28 minutes. This includes the climactically building "Hold Dear (Let Go)," the soul-tinged "Pills We Take," the mostly urgently hard-hitting "1969," and the nocturnally drifting instrumental "Float."
Large LIVE n' Direct will celebrate the EP's release with a show on July 5 at the Rivoli in Toronto. Ghettosocks, Knamelis and the Mighty Rhino are also on the bill.
