Ennio Morricone

'The Hateful Eight Overture' (performed by Lang Lang)

Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight was markedly ominous, not just for its content but because of the brooding overture composed for the film by the great Ennio Morricone. Master concert pianist Lang Lang has tried to tap into the frigid spirit of the film by interpreting a bit of the score, with video of the performance currently streaming online.

Performed earlier this month at Beijing's Rosewood Hotel, Lang Lang's interpretation lacks the sinister, bowed presence of Morricone. That said, the pianist hammers away at his instrument, making for a pleasingly discordant alternate take.
