Lana Del Rey Wore a Mesh Face Mask to a Meet-and-Greet and the Internet Is Not Happy About It

At this point in the pandemic, we all know you're supposed to wear a mask. Unfortunately, though, this has led to a lot of "chin diapers" out there and, even worse, useless face coverings that are nothing but fashion accessories — just like the mask Lana Del Rey showed off this weekend.

On Saturday (October 3), the pop star held an in-person meet-and-greet for her new poetry book Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass at a Barnes and Noble in Los Angeles. And while meeting a group of fans IRL probably isn't the safest thing to do right now, Del Rey made the whole thing so much worse by wearing a rhinestone-encrusted mesh face mask. Yes, mesh.

Obviously, you don't have to be some infectious disease expert to know that a mask with tons of holes in it and that clearly exposes your nose and mouth isn't going to do much to stop the spread of COVID-19. But that didn't stop Del Rey from wearing the mesh covering and from her then showing it off online on her Instagram.

As could be expected, Del Rey's choice of face covering has not sat well with a lot of people out there, with the singer's post flooded with a ton of negative comments this weekend.

"Lana, please wear a real mask. I'm begging you be safe," wrote one fan. Another added, "I love Lana but this is incredibly irresponsible," while yet another stated, "Girl, we're in the middle of a pandemic"

Despite all the concern, Del Rey's sister, Caroline "Chuck" Grant, who livestreamed the poetry reading on Instagram, explained that the pop star "tested negative" for COVID-19 and said she stayed two metres away from fans during the event.

However, a ton of photos from the event show Del Rey getting pretty up close and personal with fans as she posed for various photos.
