Kurt Cobain Bridge Proposed in Late Nirvana Singer's Washington Hometown

On the 17th anniversary of his death earlier this year, Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain was memorialized by his hometown of Aberdeen, WA with a new guitar-shaped statue. Now, however, it looks as if he might get even more honours from the city with a proposed bridge.

The Associated Press reports that the Aberdeen city council is considering renaming the Young Street Bridge over the Wishkah River after the late grunge icon. If they follow through with these plans, a small park beside the bridge will be renamed Cobain Landing.

Reactions to this proposal are mixed. While some council members support the idea, others think it might offend the public due to Cobain's well-publicized drug addiction and suicide, along with the negative comments he made about his hometown.

The council will accept public comments on the idea at its July 27 meeting.
