Krisiun

The Great Execution

BY Denise FalzonPublished Nov 1, 2011

Brazilian death metal stalwarts Krisiun return with their eighth studio album, The Great Execution. Although the record is classic Krisiun at its core, the band expand upon their trademark musical ideas with a variety of tempos, rhythms and song structures. Songs with clean guitars make for some of their most intriguing and musically diverse tracks, such as opener "The Will To Potency," which even starts off with some Flamenco-esque guitar work. The tone of the track then switches up with a steady, heavy riff that suddenly changes again to high-speed brutality, complete with razor-sharp guitars, deep gutturals and fast, pounding drums. The Great Execution also features an incredibly raw, organic sound, due to the fact that it was recorded entirely on analog gear and instruments. This lack of digital production offers that traditional, visceral sound that long-time Krisiun listeners crave. The band's less-is-more approach to production, as well as their captivating, well-structured songs, makes for an unpredictable, triumphant release.
