Knucklehead

The New Blacklist

BY Davey JonesPublished Mar 1, 2006

Maybe it’s the new guitar player, maybe it’s the extra time spent in the studio. Whatever it is, this fourth long player from Calgary’s Knucklehead is their finest offering yet. The New Blacklist is chock full of well-rounded, melodic street punk’n’roll with tons of catchy choruses and hooks aplenty. They’ve been around for 11 years now and it shows in the tight musicianship and superior songwriting. A self-described left-leaning band, Knucklehead’s songs are timely and topical, personal and political, taking on everything from "right-wing assholes” mindless consumerism and homelessness to a friend’s battle with the bottle. Fans of bands like the Clash, the Class Assassins and the Swinging Utters take note. Yet another fine Stumble Records release.
