Ultimate KISS Collection Vol. 3 1992-2000

BY Keith CarmanPublished Jan 14, 2008

Given the success of the first two Ultimate KISS Collections, it was inevitable that the franchise would hit lean years. These would be KISS’s rough days in the early ’90s when they were unmasked, preening goons struggling to fit in with the hair band set. Knowing full well that a three-disc set of songs such as "Lick It Up,” "Creatures Of The Night” and "Psycho Circus” would be the hardest of sells, the band have included their highly sought-after 1973 Coventry gig in Queens, NY as a disc unto itself on Volume 3. This alone will probably push the collection into the sales stratosphere. However, while mildly embarrassing schlock such as the MTV Unplugged session, a VMA performance and an appearance at the Detroit Rock City premiere party aren’t the strongest KISS moments, they are presented here in keeping with the collection’s precursors: complete in 5.1 audio and in glorious packaging. It’s a weak link but a link nonetheless.
