Hey Rosetta!'s Kinley Dowling Premieres New Solo Album as KINLEY

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Oct 5, 2016

Kinley Dowling has been charming Canadian folk-rock fans as part of Newfoundland indie ensemble Hey Rosetta! for years, and now she's stepping into the spotlight with a new solo record.

For her debut one-woman outing, the singer-songwriter is opting for the one-name moniker of KINLEY, and she'll release Letters Never Sent under that name later this week. Before the album's official release, though, you can give it an early spin right here at Exclaim!

The album was recorded at the Hill Sound Studio in Charlottetown and produced by Paper Lions' Colin Buchanan. Thayne Campbell of Sorrey, Andy MacDonald of Two Hours Traffic, Andrew Murray of English Words and singer-songwriter Rose Cousins also contributed to the record.

The result is a seven-song offering that hears Kinley turning personal letters into fully fleshed-out songs. Each one is addressed to a different and specific person, and brought to life in a tropically tinged indie-pop style.

"I don't like confrontation, so I often write songs to deal with how I'm feeling," Kinley explained in a statement. "I think sometimes it's better to make art instead of starting a possible fight."

Hear her turn that pacifist attitude into a new set of songs below. Letters Never Sent is officially out on Friday (October 7).
