Kings of Convenience's Erlend Øye Teams Up with Icelandic Reggae Band for 'Legao' Solo Album

BY Alex HudsonPublished Feb 26, 2014

Norwegian musician Erlend Øye is known for his work with the bands Kings of Convenience and the Whitest Boy Alive, but he also records solo, and last year released the Italian-language single "La Prima Estate." Now, he's back to singing in English and will release Legao this year.

The exact release date is still unconfirmed, but it was announced by Øye's own Bubbles Records. The disc was recorded in 2013 in Reykjavik with the Icelandic group Hjalmar in their studio.

Hjalmar is a reggae band, and their influence comes through on the first single, "Fence Me In," which sports an ultra-chill arrangement of skanking guitar rhythms, whirling organ and conga percussion. It was mixed by Hjalmar's own Guðmundur Kristinn Jónsson. Listen to it below.

Reportedly due out sometime in May, Legao will be Øye's first solo album since 2003's Unrest.
