Kingfisher Bluez Crams 12 Artists onto a Single 7-Inch with 'Short Songs' Comp

It's been 20 long years since Fat Wreck Chords released the iconic, 101-song compilation Short Music for Short People. While the label has yet to deliver a follow-up, Vancouver indie pop imprint Kingfisher Bluez has delivered a spiritual successor with Short Songs.

Smaller in scale and decidedly less pop-punk, the compilation is still an impressive feat in that it fits 12 songs from 12 different artists on a humble 7-inch.

The release includes new music from Free Cake for Every Creature, Carla J. Easton, Future Star, Model Village, Nina and the Chippers, Dadweed, Kim Gray, Malasada, Kylie V, Tim the Mute, Davina and Pretty Eyes for Captain America

Tim Clapp — who we'd wager is the Fat Mike in this Short Music parallel scenario — explained that he loved the opportunity to work with a dozen artists at once.

"I'm really excited to release the first music on vinyl for some of my favourite local bands and more music from so many KFB regulars," he said. "I look forward to doing more entries in the Short Songs series and I feel constantly lucky to have so many talented friends."
