Los Angeles-based unit King Washington draw from the rich traditions of their home state's folk scene of the '60s and '70s, but inject their sound with a refreshing blend of modern indie rock to keep listeners on their toes and tapping along. The band's latest single, "My Reflection," is ready to roll — and Exclaim! is giving you the first listen to it.
The song comes from the band's latest record Potential, which hears the three-piece pushing their sound forward by getting back to basics. "I think we've done a good job of simplifying the structures a bit and focusing more on stronger melodies and clearer messages, while still staying true to our signature King Washington sound," vocalist, guitarist and main songwriter Tyson Kelly said in a statement.
You can hear that sound for yourself by listening to "My Reflection." It's a dramatic tune that opens sparse and cinematic before breaking into propulsive percussive beats and soaring harmonies.
As Kelly puts it, "'My Reflection' is all about the trials of feeling tied down in one place and flirting with the idea of running away to the big city to follow your dreams."
Potential is due out on January 27, but you can get a preview of things to come right now in the player below.
