It's been a very scary day for Chicago rap monarch King Louie, who has reportedly survived a gunshot to the head.

The incident happened at 3:30 p.m. this afternoon (December 23) in Ashburn, a neighbourhood in the southwest side of Chicago. The rapper's management and city police confirmed with the Chicago Sun-Times that Louie (who is sometimes known as King L) was in a vehicle at 83rd and Pulaski when he was shot.

He was taken to the Advocate Christ Medical Center. His condition apparently stabilized, and a rep confirmed that he was "awake and talking." Further details are still forthcoming.

The rapper, born Louis Johnson Jr., has been credited with helping to give Chicago the nickname "Chiraq." In the wake of Spike Lee's new movie Chi-Raq, he released a song called "Fuck Spike Lee." Louie appears on Kanye West's Yeezus cut "Send It Up."
