Published Nov 22, 2017Upon releasing their Polygondwanaland LP last week, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard made the master recordings of the album available to fans for free, encouraging listeners to start their own record label and "employ your mates, press wax, pack boxes," to distribute the LP. Not even one week later, one listener is looking to bring the record to vinyl and launch a label at the same time.
A Kickstarter page credited to Long Island, NY resident David Wolfson outlines an extremely detailed plan to deliver Polygondwanaland as a 2xLP set cut at 45 RPM through his own label, Aural Pleasure Records. Wolfson's campaign also promises mastering by Sterling Sound, three different coloured vinyl variants and pressing through popular vinyl manufacturers Pirates Press.
"I will be coordinating the mastering, plating, pressing, and assembly of this album between several different companies," Wolfson writes on the campaign page. "I have spent the past week getting in contact with them all, receiving quotes so that I may factor this info into the Kickstarter campaign and provide a more accurate estimate of the total costs involved. They are all fully on-board and ready to take on their role in the production of this album as soon as the project is successfully funded."
Wolfson's plans for Polygondwanaland tie in to larger preexisting launch plans for Aural Pleasure Records, for which "licenses/masters for several releases have already been obtained and are at this point in time ready to go into production."
As of press time, the campaign has raised a total of $382 USD, with 43 days remaining to achieve the overall goal of $9,000 USD. Perks for pledging your cash range from album downloads from $5 USD to over $1,000 USD for a singular colour variant of your choice. You can pore over the detailed page here.
