Kim Gordon Announces Sophomore Solo Album 'The Collective,' Shares Single

It's the Sonic Youth star's follow-up to 2019's 'No Home Record'

Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon has announced her second solo album, led by the new single "BYE BYE."

The Collective is due March 8 via Matador Records. Recorded in Los Angeles, it follows Gordon's debut solo effort, 2019's No Home Record, and was likewise produced by Justin Raisen (with additional production from Anthony Paul Lopez).

According to press materials, it continues the singer-songwriter and Raisen's collaborative world-building, "with Raisin's damaged, blown out dub and trap constructions playing the foil to Gordon's intuitive word collages and hooky mantras, which conjure communication, commercial sublimation and sensory overload."

Lead single "BYE BYE" cashes in on those promises, Gordon essentially going through a shopping list and revelling in the percussive qualities of everyday items atop the producer's foundational electronic clangour.
