Killer Mike Releases "RUN," His First Solo Single in a Decade

The song features Young Thug, while the video features Dave Chappelle

After a decade spent focusing on Run the Jewels, Killer Mike has returned to solo work for the first time in a decade. "RUN" is his first work as a lead artist since his 2012 album R.A.P. Music.

Mike taps into a new sound that's slightly mellower than RTJ but no less political. It's about the danger and struggle of being Black in America, and how the only way to survive is to keep running. Young Thug shows up for a guest verse, while Dave Chappelle provides an opening monologue in the video. (Chapelle is absent from the single on streaming services, for listeners who would rather avoid the self-described TERF.)

Chapelle's intro compares being Black in America to storming the beach at Normandy, and the video directed by Adrian Villagomez brings this to life by depicting a fight against Confederate supporters in war. The video features the slogans "Free Thug," "Free Gunna" and "Free YSL" — references to the gang-related charges against members of the Atlanta label YSL Records.
