Kill the Lights

Fog Area

Kill the Lights have been yanked back and forth for the past few years, but on Fog Area they've finally settled into something more their style. After moving back to Montreal from Toronto in April 2008, they recorded 12 songs with the Besnard Lake's Jace Lasek. Reflecting confusing times, especially after a massive band upheaval in the loss of the female vocal half (Steph Hanna), this album walks through the fog but comes out in the clear. It's still a fuzzy, dark psychedelic journey through the night, but much more gratifying and it's a compulsive foot stomper from beginning to end. However, it lets itself go at all the right points. "Prince Pang," "Your Science," "Crooked Fist" and "Witch's Easter Egg" all vary in tempo, type and sensation but they are beautiful works of art. Alex Hackett and band-mates Yann Geoffroy, John Dignard and Joseph Yarmush have learned how to keep the attention on them. Fog Area will definitely get them the response they've been looking for.
