Kid Sister

Ultraviolet

BY Anupa MistryPublished Nov 24, 2009

Rap and indie music pundits have been preaching the gospel of Kid Sister for over two years. In 2007, the Chicago MC dropped the Kanye-featuring single "Pro Nails" to much ado but it's only now, a beat away from 2010, that she's releasing debut record Ultraviolet. Fitting her Chi-town roots, Kid Sister's spectrum traverses both house music and rap. She spits spitfire chants about fashion, boys, partying (repeat) over synth-laden production by club rockers A-Trak, Sinden and XXXChange. That's fun when you're drinking and getting ready to head out for the night, but aside from a couple of bangers like forceful single "Right Hand Hi," already-acclaimed "Pro Nails" and the strobe-y, throwback house jam "You Ain't Really Down," Ultraviolet is kind of a disappointing delivery from an artist who subsisted for so long on momentum.
