If you need some assistance with keeping up your live show quota, look no further than Can't Miss Concerts, our weekly roundup of the best shows in Canada. We've got you covered this week, January 26 to February 1, with a fresh new line up of shows ranging from Montreal's favourite master of turntablism Kid Koala to Vancouver's indie-pop superstar Hannah Georgas and much more.

Aesop Rock

Producer and rapper Aesop Rock will be making his way through Montreal and Toronto this week on his "Hey Kirby" Tour. The Long Island hip-hop artist has been known to enjoy shaking things up a bit, so although his latest album was named The Impossible Kid, the tour is named after his dear cat, Kirby. His unique brand of confessional-style storytelling and tremendous vocabulary make him a can't-miss wordsmith, so make sure to catch him in Toronto and Montréal this week when he's joined by fellow artists Homeboy Sandman, Rob Sonic and DJ Zone.

01/28/17 Montreal, QC – L'Astral
01/29/17 Toronto, ON - Rebel

Cloud Nothings

With their LP Life Without Sound set to be released tomorrow (January 27), there's no better time to check out these Cleveland indie rockers. Frontman Dylan Baldi has commented that the new record is "my version of new age music. It's supposed to be inspiring," so this might be a fascinating album to catch the band touring in support of. Come hear Life Without Sound — it's a shredder.

01/27/17 Toronto, ON – Lee's Palace
01/28/17 Montreal, QC – Theatre Fairmount

Exclaim! Class of 2017 show with Shy Kids, Common Deer, Raven Shields, SATE

Exclaim!'s 25th Anniversary warranted a special musical bash of some kind, so we joined forces with the Class of 2017 series to launch a celebration that included four of them. This week, for the series' third outing, four more artists representing the meat of the (local) Toronto music scene will play. Shy Kids will tickle your eardrums with their sweet harmonies and overlapping percussion, string-masters Common Deer will whisk you away with their indie-folk fusion, Raven Shields will show off her impeccably smooth voice over fierce, guitar-backed songs and SATE will treat your ears to her gravelly soul vocals and dynamite stage presence. Then, stay tuned for the fourth and final instalment next Saturday.

01/28/17 Toronto, ON – Horseshoe Tavern

Hannah Georgas

Juno nominee Hannah Georgas is currently on tour for her latest album For Evelyn, named after her 98-year-old grandmother and released last June on Dine Alone Records. The indie-pop record was extremely well received and was the first release since 2012 for the Vancouver-based songbird. Folk-rock singer/songwriter Aliocha will open the Montreal show, but Georgas will play Ottawa and Peterborough, ON this week, too.

01/26/17 Montreal, QC – Cabaret Lion D'or (with Aliocha)
01/27/17 Ottawa, ON – National Arts Centre
01/28/17 Peterborough, ON – Gordon Best Theatre

Kid Koala

It's not every day a prominent Canadian DJ invites you to test your vinyl-spinning chops by collaborating with their show, but Kid Koala is doing things a little differently on his "Satellite Concert" tour. Titling it a "Turntable Orchestra," the Montreal scratch DJ has arranged to have 50 turntable stations set up for you to take a crack at as part of his interactive tour. Due to popular demand, Kid Koala has a stack of double shows lined up at Toronto's The Rivoli this week.

01/26/17 Toronto, ON – The Rivoli (late show)
01/27/17 Toronto, ON – The Rivoli (early show)

Lizzo

Cheeky and soulful hip-hop darling Lizzo will be performing out west this week. Based in Minneapolis, Lizzo is also the foundress of hip-hop groups the Chalice, the Clerb, Grrrl Party and Absynthe, so she's been in the game long enough that she knows a thing or two about showmanship. Atlantic Records signed Lizzo on the strength of her album Lizzobangers, then released her latest EP, Coconut Oil — expect to hear songs from both when she hits Vancouver this week.

01/27/17 Vancouver BC – Alexander Gastown

Isaiah Rashad

Smooth-rhyming Tennessee rapper/producer Isaiah Rashad has been rapping since he was in high school and subsequently joined famous hip-hop label TDE alongside Kendrick Lamar, SZA and Schoolboy Q in 2013. Be sure to check out the Southern storyteller this week as makes stops on his "Lil Sunny" tour in support of his 2016 sophomore album, The Sun's Tirade. Rashad will be joined by TDE label-mate Lance Skiiiwalker and Maryland rapper Jay IDK.

01/26/17 Toronto, ON – The Phoenix Concert Theatre
01/27/17 Montreal, QC – L'Astral

Wintersleep

Juno award-winning indie-rockers Wintersleep will conclude their lengthy tour across Canada with their last hurrah this week in Newfoundland. Add in the fact that fellow indie-rock band the Everywheres will be opening the show, and you've got a recipe for a night to remember.
