Earlier today (December 21), Exclaim! crowned Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d. city our favourite album of the year, but many have been wondering what's up next from the rising Compton rapper. According to a new interview with the dude, he's prepared to start working on a film.
When asked about his upcoming projects, Lamar told GQ he was gearing up to work on "Visuals... I wouldn't call it a short film but... that should be a hint."
He confirmed that he'll be directing the flick, and noted, "I haven't really thought about starring in it... I can, because it is me and my life."
We could be reading into those comments too much, but lets us be reminded that good kid, m.A.A.d. city was self-described on the album cover as "a short film by Kendrick Lamar." While it might not necessarily be the film adaptation of the LP, it looks as if it will be autobiographical.
While the conversation with GQ quickly steered away from Lamar's movie plans, he copped to a wish list of actors he'd like to see in the flick. He pointed out he could be played by The Wire's Tristan Wilds, his mom could be played by Academy Award nominee Taraji P. Henson, and he mused it could be cool to see Rihanna play album love interest Sherane.
For the record, he also admitted in the interview that Sherane is based on a real person, but that's not her actual name.
