KEN Mode to Record 'Success' LP with Steve Albini

BY Alex HudsonPublished Sep 29, 2014

Canadian noise mongers KEN Mode were still promoting their 2013 album Entrench as of a couple of months ago, but now they've moved onto the next step: working on a new LP.

Recording has yet to begin for the forthcoming collection, but it already has a title: Success. Starting on November 23, it will be recorded with legendary alt-rock hero Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies, Shellac) at Empire Recording in Winnipeg. During the sessions, Eugene Robinson of Oxbow and members of Full of Hell will stop by to make guest appearances.

The guys are planning things out well in advance: they're already selected Bob Weston to handle mastering and longtime artist Randy Ortiz to spearhead the visual side of things. In a statement, frontman Jesse Matthewson promised that Success would be "a decidedly stripped-down northern noise rock apocalypse to be unleashed on the world. Time to take this back to our roots."

Song titles include "Blessed," "Absolutely Not," "Failing at Fun Since 1981," "Dead Actors," "A Catalog of Small Disappointments," "Management Control," "A Passive Disaster," and "I Just Liked Fire." Fans can expect to hear some of these new tunes as the band tours Europe this fall. See the schedule below.
