Kelp Records Celebrates 20th Anniversary with Ontario Shows and Acorn Vinyl Reissue

BY Alex HudsonPublished Apr 16, 2014

Jon Bartlett founded Kelp Records way back in 1994 in Fredericton, NB, meaning that this year the label will be rightly patting itself on the back and celebrating its 20th anniversary. Helping us all get in on the action, Kelp will be marking the occasion by staging concerts in Toronto and in its current home base of Ottawa, as well as giving us a new reissue to sink our teeth into.

The Toronto show will take place on May 29 at the Horseshoe Tavern, while the Ottawa gig is on May 31 at Barrymore's Music Hall. The shows will feature the live return of the recently absent Acorn, plus the lovingly dubbed "Kelp Revue with the Flaps." This will include appearances from Jim Bryson, Evening Hymns, Andrew Vincent, Chris Page, Andy Swan, Rhume, Flecton Big Sky and more promised "special guests."

These shows take place the same week that Kelp reissues the Acorn's 2004 album The Pink Ghosts, along with the 2005 EP Blankets. They will packaged together as a double LP set with pink and white vinyl. The records will ship the week of May 26.

Tickets and records can be ordered right here.

Over the past two decades, Kelp Records has amassed a catalogue of 76 releases, including albums from the Acorn, Jim Bryson, Hilotrons, Andy Swan and more. It has also expanded into Kelp Music, with a management wing and other services.
