Kele from Bloc Party: "I Hope I Haven't Been Fired"

Bloc Party's Kele Okereke announced his new EP The Hunter just last week. But what are Kele's bandmates doing while the singer pursues a solo career? By the sound of things, they've been practising without him.

This story comes from Kele himself, who told NME that he had a run-in with guitarist Russell Lissack, bassist Gordon Moakes and drummer Matt Tong while in New York.

"I was actually having lunch about three weeks ago, just here on 8th Avenue and I saw somebody walk past and I recognized the haircut," he explained. "It was Russell. I was like, 'Hey!' but he didn't see me and I followed him around the corner and then I saw Matt, Gordon and Russell all standing outside this rehearsal space. They all went inside."

Kele continued, "I hope I haven't been fired. I don't really know what's going on, because we haven't really spoken recently and I'm a bit too scared to ask.

Well, we're guessing that telling a journalist means that your bandmates will hear about it soon enough.

Bloc Party have been on hiatus since 2009. They've evidently being doing some work together in recent weeks; last month, Tong posted a Facebook update revealing that the band had got together for a writing session. So we're thinking that Kele might be getting a bit dramatic if he's already worried about getting fired.
