Kayo Announces 'S.L.A.V.E.' EP for Black Box, Maps Out Tour with Chali 2na

We've been hearing rumblings about a new release from Halifax rapper Kayo since last year, and sure enough, the Classified protégé has linked up with Black Box for a new EP. S.L.A.V.E. (which stands for Serenity Lives Around Virtuous Energy) is out on September 10.

The album was recorded in Halifax between tours earlier this year. According to a press release, "S.L.A.V.E. chronicles the highs and lows of Kayo's last two years in the music industry — struggling to find his place in the North American hip hop scene, his relationship with Canadian rap icon Classified and his former label team." This presumably refers to Kayo moving to Canada from Saint Lucia and initially getting signed to Classified's Halflife Records.

Although S.L.A.V.E. is billed as an EP, it includes a generous nine songs. Collaborators include Quake, Cam Smith, and longtime collaborator Yogi Da Producer. Below, stream the atmospheric, Chris Noxx-produced "Rich Already," which includes a verse that serves as a thank-you to an unnamed mentor (presumably Classified). A video for the new single "Don't Bring Me Down" is slated to drop later this month.

Kayo will be hitting the road in Canada with Chali 2na in September. See the schedule below.
