Katy Perry Slams "Fake" Awards Shows

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jun 15, 2017

Katy Perry is trying to let the world Witness her true self with her latest album campaign — and apparently that includes denouncing the very system that's bolstered her success.

In a recent New York Times interview, Perry criticizes high-profile industry accolades, many of which she's been the recipient of.

"All the awards shows are fake," she said. "And all the awards that I've won are fake." Going on to explain that they don't represent the audience and real fans, she added, "They're constructs."

To date, some of the constructs that Perry has to her name include Billboard Music Awards, American Music Awards, People's Choice Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and Teen Choice Awards. She's also been nominated for 13 Grammys, but never taken one of the coveted golden gramophones home.

Perry will be taking her music directly to her adoring audiences in North America on her upcoming "Witness Tour." Find full details here.
