Katy Perry Literally Sent an Olive Branch to Taylor Swift

BY Sarah MurphyPublished May 9, 2018

It seems as if the long-running feud between pop stars Taylor Swift and Katy Perry may finally actually be over.

As revealed on Swift's Instagram story last night (May 8), the "Swish Swish" singer sent the "Look What You Made Me Do" singer a literal olive branch.

Along with the peaceful plant symbol, Perry also sent Swift a handwritten letter. It's hard to make out all the details in the note other than the "Hey Old Friend" intro, but in a short clip on her story, Swift said, "This means so much to me." She also captioned it with "Thank you Katy" and a heart emoji.

Swift received the peace offering in her dressing room at the first stop of the "Reputation World Tour," which kicked off last night (May 8) in Glendale, AZ.

After years of friendship and declarations of admiration on social media, the pop stars' feud began over shared (or poached, depending who you ask) back-up dancers on their Red and Prism tours. It went public when Swift threw shade at Perry in a 2014 Rolling Stone interview, saying that an unnamed female artist had hired people out from under her and "basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour" — and that she has written "Bad Blood" about that artist.

That's when Perry called Swift out for being a "Regina George in sheep's clothing" — referencing Rachel McAdams' performance as the leader of Mean Girls' titular clique.

Perry's Nicki Minaj-featuring "Swish Swish" video is widely believed to be a response to "Bad Blood" — despite Perry's prior insistence that she was "ready to let it go." It's also worth noting that Swift and Minaj have their own complicated history together.

The "Swish Swish" clip arrived just days before Swift ended a long period of silence and returned with her "Look What You Made Me Do" video — which features her sporting a Perry-esque wig and smashing a sports car into a pole.

Last year, Swift also coincidentally returned her back catalogue to streaming services on the exact same day Perry's latest album Witness was released.

Other celebrities even weighed in, with artists like P!nk and poor Tom Hiddleston taking Swift's side, and fellow enemy Kim Kardashian taking Perry's.

Thankfully, it seems that all the petty back-and-forth of the last couple years has finally been laid to rest.
