Published Oct 30, 2015Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O is no stranger to crafting cinematic music, having contributed to soundtracks like Where the Wild Things Are, Her and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Now, she's keeping that screen-friendly streak going with a recently penned a track called "I Shall Rise" for the Rise of the Tomb Raider videogame, and it has just arrived online.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, the singer explained that the song was like her own personal version of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive," which comes through in both the sound and the sentiment of the haunting, slow-building and ultimately triumphant track.
"It all sounded really tasty," O said about the project. "They wanted drama and high-stakes and melodrama. That was very appealing to me because I love making music connected to a storyline."
You can see some of that melodrama unfold in the trailer for the upcoming videogame below, and then keep scrolling to hear the full version of "I Shall Rise." Rise of the Tomb Raider hits shelves on November 20.
