Kaos

Hello Stranger

BY Melissa WheelerPublished Mar 1, 2005

With disco, rock, house and watery funk, Kaos presents a laid back semi-dance album in upper mid-tempo. The opener, "Lessons in Love,” is a cottony disco house track featuring the dulcet tones of Erlend Øye, soft enough to float on. Although mostly gentle, the back half of the album is a little sharper and distinct. Primarily disco-electro hybrids with a rock garnish that amount to more than the sum of their parts, the most aggressive it gets is the edgy disco electro "Boogie Boy.” The album falters on tracks like "My Reputation,” where the aimless ’80s synths induce boredom. The stand out track is definitely the sophisticated and adorable "Bang the Box,” with its gamer tones and drawling synth hypnotisms.
