Kanye West Claims Self-Defence in Assault Case

Kanye West is fighting the charges laid against him over a scuffle with a photographer this summer, with his lawyers saying he was acting in "self-defence."

As previously reported, Kanye was charged with criminal battery and attempted grand theft for allegedly attacking paparazzo Daniel Ramos at Los Angeles's LAX on July 19. According to the photographer, he suffered hip injuries and was forced to go to the hospital. If found guilty in the suit, Yeezy could face up to one year in prison.

Now, according to documents obtained by TMZ, West's lawyers are saying that "his safety was in immediate danger" when he was approached by Ramos. According to his team, the rapper "responded to this assault by doing only those acts that were reasonably necessary for his self-defence."

Kanye is due in court on October 10.

In other news, West's current European blitz recently landed him on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio program, where he proceeded to drop a few characteristically braggadocios whoppers. You can stream the appearance in both audio and video form down below.
