Published Oct 20, 2016Kanye West's "Saint Pablo Tour" is back underway, and last night (October 19) in Seattle, the rapper used his giant floating platform to discuss the messy politics created by rival streaming services.
Before launching into his "Pop Style" verse, Yeezy revealed the behind-the-scenes drama that caused his contribution to get cut from the final version of Drake's VIEWS.
"Y'all didn't get, what y'all were supposed to get with me and Drake on this song because of some Tidal/Apple bullshit," he told the crowd. "Every time I perform this song I think about this shit. I think about the politics. I think about how hard I go for music, for art, for y'all."
He also went on to explain that Jay Z's miniscule cameo on the original track was out of respect to Meek Mill.
"I start freestyling to it. Jay thought of a couple of lines," Kanye continued. "I said, 'Just go ahead, throw that on there. [Drake]'ll be so surprised, he probably won't expect you to be on there.' We sent it back to him and he was like, 'Oh shit, the Throne is on this shit.' … Then Jay thought about it, and out of respect to Meek Mill he didn't want to be on the track. I said, 'We've got to squash this shit and let people have this song.' But then it went into some political shit, some shit about percentages on songs."
Drake and Mill spent plenty of time publicly feuding last year after the Philadelphia rapper accused the 6 God of using ghostwriters. It was a different time — a time when Drake was still finishing his fights on top.
As for West's future collaborations, it doesn't sound like a Watch the Throne sequel will be too easy to arrange.
