Published Jun 27, 2013Justin Vernon's Chigliak imprint hasn't exactly been flooding the market with releases since its inception, having thus far only delivered a reissue of Amateur Love's It's All Aquatic in 2012, but another LP is on the way. This next release is likewise a reissue, but of Americana singer Sarah Siskind's 2003 debut record Covered.
A press release confirms that the Chigliak edition of Covered arrives July 16 in its first-ever vinyl pressing and as a digital download. The Appalachian-styled folk album had been recorded with producer Tucker Martine (Laura Veirs, the Decemberists) and featured contributions from guitarist Bill Frisell. Unfortunately, Siskind suffered a serious sinus illness around the time she was making the record and underwent several surgeries, leading to a much smaller promotion campaign behind the record than originally intended.
Vernon came across the LP while exploring Frisell's larger catalogue and quickly became a fan of Siskind.
In a statement, Vernon said, "Looking back, I had no idea how much this album would shake me down; it quickly earned its place in my heart. I listened so much from then on that I wore out several copies, all the while pondering how such an amazing record could go largely unnoticed by the masses."

Since the initial release of the LP, Siskind has recovered from her illness, won the 2009 Nashville Music Awards' "Americana Album of the Year" for her Say It Louder, and wrote material for Alison Krauss. Siskind's latest EP, In the Mountains, was released last year.
