Justin Townes Earle's Cause of Death Revealed

Justin Townes Earle tragically passed away this weekend. But while at the time no cause of death was revealed, Nashville police have now stated the 38-year-old songwriter died of "probable drug overdose."

As WKRN reports, police first responded to a welfare check on Earle on Sunday (August 23) after a friend called to say they had not heard from him since Thursday. According to the report, the Nashville Fire Department had to force their way into the apartment, where they found Earle dead.

A police spokesperson said there were no signs of struggle, and they do not suspect foul play.

While Earle's official cause of death is still pending as officials conduct an autopsy, Nashville police state that their preliminary investigation indicates that Earle's death was a "probable drug overdose."

As previously reported, Earle struggled with addiction from an early age, losing a publishing deal in his teens before being fired from his father Steve Earle's band the Dukes
