Justin Timberlake and Timbaland Going Country?

Justin Timberlake and Timbaland may be heading into twangier territory than we're used to, if a new interview with the latter is to be believed. According to Timbo, the pair may be cooking up some countrified sounds for Timberlake's next LP.

Speaking with TMZ about a recent Country Music Awards duet between Timberlake and country singer Chris Stapleton, Timbaland was asked if the pop star would "go country." This prompted the beatsmith to note that it wouldn't be that odd of a shift for either of them.

"Guess what? [Timberlake and I] are country," he noted, "He's from Tennessee, I'm from Virginia. It's only right that we try to tap into what we was raised in."

He added of the pair's somewhat country-styled collabo "Drink You Away" from The 20/20 Experience 2 of 2: "It's now starting to be one of the biggest songs. We always wanted to do country music — we thought some of them lyrics were country."

Though nothing is set in stone, Timbaland added that he's open to any musical idea and further noted that he's already living in the country music capital.

"I gotta tap into country. I'm already posted up in Nashville, I've got a little spot in Nashville, so that's something I wanna do. I am music, so I don't discriminate no genres. I learn it and I study it and I love it."

Following further questioning about whether or not he and Timberlake are actually going to get a country music record off the ground, Timbo responded: "You know what — now that you put it out there? Why not?"

We'll have to wait and see whether this pans out as implied, or if this is a tongue-in-cheek response, but you can see the interview down below.
