Published Jan 06, 2011The Juno Awards will turn 40 this spring, and to celebrate the occasion, the organizers have decided to put on four tribute nights that celebrate the music of the past four decades. Each night will cover a separate decade, and Toronto's Horseshoe Tavern hosted a '70s-themed night back in December.
This Saturday (January 8), the Horseshoe will host the second tribute night, which will focus on the music of the '80s. Among the artists confirmed to be performing are Chalk Circle, Maestro Fresh Wes, Platinum Blonde, Rik Emmett (Triumph), Modern Superstitions and San Sebastian.
Former MuchMusic VJ Christopher Ward will host the event, which is produced by Last Gang Entertainment.
You can get involved with the show by going to Exclaim!'s Facebook page and voting on your favourite Canadian songs from the '80s. The organizers will choose their favourite selection, which will be performed at the concert. Whoever picks the winning song will receive an additional prize pack. This show will coincide with another tribute to the '80s. Today (January 6), Toronto's NOW Magazine will present the '80s instalment of NOW Talks, a series of lectures featuring NOW Magazine music editors joined by various artists from each decade.
Maestro Fresh Wes and Mark Holmes (Platinum Blonde) will speak at the event, which will take place at 189 Church St. in Toronto.
