Junior Varsity

Wide Eyed

BY Jasamine White-GluzPublished Sep 1, 2005

There is no denying it: the Junior Varsity are 2005 pop punk. As much as they would like to consider themselves an emo band, the vocal harmonies, hooky choruses and quirky song titles like "I’m Home, Horray!” qualify them as a modern day Blink-182. That being said, Wide Eyed is actually a good record. The songs really benefit from some solid synth playing and the band’s avoidance of adding any sort of screamo influence makes the record that much more enjoyable. The best track on the record might be "When We Meet Aliens…,” a polished pop song worth listening on repeat.
