Julianna Barwick

"The Harbinger" (video)

Ahead of a batch of tour dates, ambient experimenter Julianna Barwick has let loose a haunting video for her Nepenthe number "The Harbinger."

Directed by Derrick Belcham, the video first finds Barwick's static figure floating in a body of water. The clip soon shifts to a solemn woman sitting at home only to be visited by a spirit. The two make their way back to the waves, but the fate of the living woman is left ambiguous. You can suss out the meaning for yourself down below.

"The video illustrates a moment in which an individual makes a sudden choice which they know will change their life forever, for better or worse, and the freedom that this affords them, liberating or oppressive," Belcham said in a statement. "It is a non-linear illustration of catharsis."
