Published Jan 10, 2011While tweets from the Strokes confirmed that the suave rock ensemble did indeed finish recording their fourth album a couple of months ago, little is known about the upcoming disc. There's no tracklisting, no album title, nothing. Bassist Nikolai Fraiture did hint that the set will drop in March. Yesterday (January 9), singer Julian Casablancas decided to throw us a bone and uploaded what he claimed is the cover art for his group's new album on his Twitpic, but it's obvious he's pulling our leg.
Though tagged with the line "exclusive -- check out the new Strokes album cover," it's unclear if the painting Casablancas revealed is legit. It is, however, hilarious. On it, an awkwardly proportioned b-baller palming a pink rock and a sassy clown are travelling via train car. In the background, a smiling goat stands atop a rocky waterfall. The scene is also juiced up with a single rainbow, all the way across the sky.
Whether or not this is really the art for the album is debatable, but it has sparked some arguments at the Twitpic's location from the Strokes' devoted. "Please please PLEASEEEEE tell me its a joke," one bummed fan commented, while a more positive-minded person proclaimed, "the strokes are unique. So it doesnt matter. The Strokes. Is awesomeness."
Stay tuned for when the next nugget of info drops for this disc.
