"Heart Tattoo" on Exclaim! TV

BY Bradley Zorgdrager Published Jul 22, 2014

Joyce Manor have found a new place to reside with their recent signing to Epitaph Records for Never Hungover Again. That album, their third full-length, is officially dropping today (July 22), and we've already got an Exclaim! TV session for the effort's "Heart Tattoo," which vocalist/guitarist Barry Johnson recently described as "the first song I've ever written that is about one specific thing."

The emotional pop-punkers aren't playing any tricks with this Exclaim! exclusive rendition, as that specific thing in question is the song's subject: a heart tattoo. Musically, they aren't pulling any punches either (except for the punchy, punky drums), as the song gallops along at full-speed despite dropping the electric guitars for a pair of Yamaha acoustics. That the song translates so well to a stripped-down rendition is only made that much more impressive by the fact that it was written in a mere 20 minutes.

Following appearances at TURF and Ottawa Bluesfest, after which this session was performed, the band have two more Canadian appearances scheduled this year, including a date in Vancouver with Brand New and a return to Toronto this September. Find the pair of Canuck dates below, followed by the Exclaim! TV session of "Heart Tattoo."
