Josiah Wolf

Jet Lag (new)

BY Jessica LewisPublished Mar 1, 2010

Josiah Wolf (drummer of WHY?) is back to his solo glory, bringing us a fantastic album. But it comes with some wary notes; Wolf made Jet Lag after the end of an 11-year marriage. Best described lyrically in "The Apart Meant," he sings: "My apartment smells like divorce, unused 'I love yous' build up in my throat." Wolf laments the past, but does seem almost ready for the future. Besides his uncanny resemblance to the Unicorns/Islands, musically, Wolf's voice is relaxed but capable of a wide range. He creates a hopeful and sometimes psychedelic atmosphere with bells, organs, kalimbas, guitars, drums, bass and more. Wolf is perfectly ordinary, singing about a new car smell and finding change. It's endearing and inspiring that this sombre album has a more playful side. It feels like your best friend paying you back with a favour for giving them a really great hug.
