Jordi Rosen

Madame Xavier

BY Lorraine CarpenterPublished Apr 1, 2002

Simple sunny pop meets murky Eastern European folk on this debut by Montreal singer/songwriter/accordionist/Tarot reader Jordi Rosen. The morose moans of the squeeze-box, plus equally eclectic tools like harmonium, ukulele and autoharp, form the foundation for downbeat ditties in waltz time as well as the light and sing-song tunes brought to life by Rosen’s charming girlish vocals, sometimes in harmony with Joellen Housego (ex-Snitches). Ex-Godspeed guitarist Mike Moya, Rufus Wainwright and "junk percussionist” Lisa Gamble also strut their stuff in this amiable little fun-folk experiment.
