Jont Bids 'Hello Halifax' on New Album

BY Alex HudsonPublished Apr 16, 2013

Jont grew up in the U.S. and the UK, but he now calls Halifax home. It's only fitting then, that his new album is called Hello Halifax.

Due out on May 14, the album was recorded at the Maid's Room in New York. Rather than using a click track and building songs from the rhythm section up, he sung each song with his acoustic guitar — sans metronome — and then overdubbed everything from there.

Accord to a press release, the result of this recording process is "something truly alive, the authenticity of a great live performer and songwriter who through sheer life-experience has finally reached his full potential, and a host of magical and inventive arrangements that bring out the size and colours of each song until you are swathed with emotion."

To support the album, Jont will be touring throughout Canada's eastern half in the coming months. Scroll past the tracklist to see the schedule.

The soft, folksy "Lucky Leaf Falls" is streaming at the bottom of this page, while the entire album is available in exchange from an email address right here.

For those who are unfamiliar with Jont, he previously worked as poetry journalist and a professional cricket player before turning his focus to music. He's released a string of albums over the past decade-plus, including the albums Whole Again and Set It Free in 2010. In 2012, he discovered that he had an 8-year-old daughter living Halifax, prompting his move to Atlantic Canada.
