Jon and Roy Return with 'By My Side'

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 7, 2014

With the weather getting sunnier, perennially chill Vancouver Island dudes Jon and Roy are preparing to return with another collection of summery folk rock. By My Side with be out on May 27.

The pair wrote these seven tunes during jam sessions at Roy Vizer's house, during which Jon Middleton brought along a banjo and an acoustic guitar. For the final product, they recruited bassist Louis Sadava and backing vocalist Laura Mitic (of Carmanah).

The songs are apparently succinct and immediate than past offerings without being too much of a departure from 2012's Let It Go.

"I listen to so many different styles of music, and I get inspired by so many different things, I end up writing different songs for each album," Middleton said in a statement. "Musically, the songs on By My Side are linked, in the sense that they are all chorus-driven and more concise in structure than on previous releases. This album is more cohesive."

The tracklist is below. At the bottom of the page, hear a short snippet of peppy acoustic ditty "Where'd My Light Go."
