Friends and family of American trumpeter and composer Jon Hassell have launched a GoFundMe to assist with financial costs of "long-term health issues."

As the group writes in a campaign description, "Now, at 83...Jon is in a dire position and needs financial assistance to ensure a safe and sustainable living situation going forward. As Jon is in the highest risk group for COVID-19, the urgency of his condition has become even more acute in recent weeks."

Friend and collaborator Brian Eno, who famously worked with Hassell on 1980's Fourth World Music Vol. 1: Possible Musics, wrote of the artist, "His recordings have had a big impact on other musicians, and, through them, have changed musical tastes dramatically. His unique intellectual contribution is also noteworthy: he is a tireless and articulate theorist as well as a great musician."

Eno concluded, "Jon is going through hard times now. I feel that many of us owe him a debt of gratitude, so perhaps making a contribution to this fund is a way we can thank him."

Hassell reissued his 1977 debut Vernal Equinox this past March and is expected to release a new album this summer. His most recent release as a bandleader is 2018's Listening to Pictures (Pentimento Volume One).
