Published Mar 12, 2014While Morrissey continues to deny any possibility of a Smiths reunion, the band's Johnny Marr is just struggling to make things work for his solo career. Though he's hinted at a sophomore solo album and appears on the newly announced Amazing Spider-Man 2 soundtrack, the guitarist is now dealing with a broken hand.
In a statement to NME, Marr explained that he took a tumble while jogging and injured his hand.
"I was running pretty fast and just went straight over," he said. "I banged my shoulder and then realized my hand was in a bad way. Obviously we're hoping there's no long-term damage."
The biggest casualty of this injury may be Marr's planned European tour dates (which can be viewed here). "The plan is to do the Leeds Brudenell shows on March 24 and 25 and then the dates I have in South America as long as I can play the guitar when the plaster comes off," he said. "Usually that would be after six weeks but I'm hoping it will be okay, it's a bit up in the air at this point. I may have to start drinking heavily."
Hopefully this won't throw a wrench into the release of his new solo album. The yet-to-be-titled record, which will follow up his 2013 effort The Messenger, is expected to arrive in September.
