Published Sep 30, 2014Legendary indie pop guitarist Johnny Marr has spent a lifetime anchoring other people's bands, from the Smiths to Modest Mouse to the Cribs, but he's found further success as a solo artist. After last year's The Messenger, he's set to release Playland next week.
No, it's not a concept album about the joys of visiting Vancouver's dilapidated amusement park. Instead, Marr told NME that "The album's main themes are the atmosphere of the city, and the preoccupations of the people who live in them; those preoccupations being consumerism, sex and anxiety, or distraction and transcendence from those things."
Playland will hit shelves on October 6 via Warner Bros. Records, but you can stream the whole thing below courtesy of Spotify, which has finally launched in Canada.
