Johnny Cash

'Out Among the Stars' (album stream)

Johnny Cash passed away more than a decade ago, but fans of the classic country singer are now being treated to an entire album's worth of material that has been dug out of the vaults. Out Among the Stars is due out tomorrow (March 25) through Columbia/Legacy, and it's available to stream now.

The 12 songs were found in Cash's vaults after he passed away. They have never been released in any form and come from two separate sessions: 1981 at Nashville's Columbia Studios and 1984 at the city's 1111 Sound Studios.

The songs exemplify Cash's classic country sound. Title cut "Out Among the Stars" sports a bouncy, toe-tapping rhythm, while "She Used to Love Me a Lot" is slinky and dark, "After All" is slow and dramatic, and the Waylon Jennings-assisted "I'm Movin' On" is a brisk gallop. Cash's wife June Carter sings on a couple of cuts.
