John Malkovich Movie Will Appear at Cannes Ahead of Ridiculous 2115 Release Date

Here's a real-life situation that's more absurd than the entire plot of Being John Malkovich — actor John Malkovich has written and starred in a movie that won't come out for another 100 years. That said, a safe containing the film will make an appearance at Cannes.

To really nail the point down, the film is called 100 Years — The Movie You Will Never See. It was directed by Robert Rodriguez, and won't hit theatres (or, more likely, movie-displaying brain microchips) until November 18, 2115.

A press release explained that the film is being "held in a special safe that will open automatically in 100 years when the timing is complete." The safe containing the film will make an appearance at Cannes, for some reason.

An idea this ridiculous is sure to go viral, so don't worry — they've got a brand on board. The film is sponsored by Louis XIII cognac.

In a making-of featurette available to stream below, Malkovich explains that part of the film's goal was to see whether or not they could accurately predict what life will be like 100 years from now. Of course, only the people of the future will be able to tell if they were anywhere near correct.

Sadly, there is no pre-order link to buy tickets for the film's 2115 release date, so you might have to wait in line on opening night like a chump.
