John Frusciante, Vivian Girls and Carla Bruni Join Forces for David Bowie Tribute

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jan 4, 2010

Following his emancipation from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, guitar virtuoso John Frusciante has already found an interesting project to dip his calloused fingers into. Namely, he'll be joining forces with a variety of musicians for a David Bowie tribute album that doubles as a benefit for the War Child charity.

As TwentyFourBit reports, the compilation will also include contributions from Vivian Girls, Devendra Banhart's Megapuss, Duran Duran, MGMT, A Place to Bury Strangers, Rainbow Arabia and a diverse cast of other acts. Also, as previously reported, French President Nicolas Sarkozy's wife Carla Bruni is making an appearance, although it looks as if Charlotte Gainsbourg may not.

In a post on Duran Duran's blog, the band revealed a tentative tracklisting for the record. While the order, and a few of the covers, are still TBA, this looks like a very promising set, one we hope fares better than the last Bowie tribute thrown our way. The as-yet-untitled compilation is due out in May via Manimal Vinyl. It will be available on CD, double vinyl and as a digital download.

UPDATE: In an email to Exclaim!, the MGMT camp has informed us that "MGMT are not confirmed to be on the Bowie tribute," as we reported above.
