The Velvet Underground's John Cale Is a Fan of Mike WiLL Made-It

BY Calum SlingerlandPublished Dec 22, 2016

Velvet Underground founder John Cale had members of Animal Collective and the Libertines help him perform his band's iconic debut in Paris earlier this year, though it's a shame he couldn't have worked Mike WiLL Made-It onto the bill. After all, Cale has just called the producer one his his favourite modern musical figures.

The Atlanta beatsmith's music comes as a recommendation from Cale as part of an interview with The Creative Independent, in which he also recommends the work of Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev, artist Helen Marten, author Stuart MacBride and "everyone standing guard on the principles of humanity."

Mike WiLL has had himself an excellent 2016, providing production support for the likes of Rae Sremmurd, Gucci Mane, Young Thug, Snoop Dogg, Kid Cudi, Isaiah Rashad and Ab-Soul, among others.

Kale's reissue of Fragments of a Rainy Season arrived earlier this year. You can read his entire conversation on songwriting, inspiration, and revisiting older material with The Creative Independent here.
