The Sled Island slogan, "Nobody rains on our parade," became the mantra for Friday night's Neko Case-turned-Joel Plaskett Emergency show at Calgary's Olympic Plaza. The much-anticipated singer/songwriter cancelled her headlining show for the festival's outdoor venue just hours before she was meant to take the stage but, lucky for organizers, Plaskett was more than prepared to add on an extra show on Friday night, with a second performance later that night at Flames Central.

Seeing Plaskett take the stage with his band is an experience lovers of the Halifax-based musician long for, as it doesn't seem to happen often enough. Plaskett and his band put on a flawless performance, which included "Through & Through & Through," "Harbour Boys" and even a medley featuring Lorde's hit song "Royals." By the end of the show, thanks to an earlier torrential downpour, fans had combined puddle dancing, crowd surfing and a full out sing-along to an act that can easily be called one of Canada's most underrated treasures.
